'Start Up, Top Up' Business Rate Relief
North Devon District Council is keen to support new businesses in the area and offers 'Start up, Top Up' business rate relief to supplement that given by the government under its 'Small Business Rate Relief Scheme (SBRRS).
Our 'top up' rate initiative seeks to further help businesses in the first few crucial years of trading. The relief is based on the rates charged on business property and will be for a two-year period giving 50 per cent relief in the first year and 25 per cent in the second year.
To qualify for 'Start Up, Top Up' business rate relief, businesses must show the following:
* That they are a new business within the first two years of trading.
* That they are eligible for or currently receiving 'Small Business Rate Relief' under the government scheme.
* That they have the potential to grow.
* That they are innovative and have added value that makes their business different from any other in North Devon.
* That their business is sustainable and will/does not adversely affect the environment.
