- to consolidate and modernise but not to de-regulate
- promote Gambling as an acceptable leisure activity
Core objectives
The objective of the act is to:
- prevent of crime and disorder
- ensure fair and open gambling
- protect children and the vulnerable
Licensing bodies
Licensing bodies under the act are:
- the Gaming Board has become the Gambling Commission
- local authorities: for example, North Devon Council
Licence types
The act defines the following licence types:
- operators’ licences: administered by the Gambling Commission
- personal licences: administered by the Gambling Commission
- internet gaming: administered by the Gambling Commission
- premises licences and other permits: administered by local authorities
