Household Support Fund April 2022 – September 2022

The Government has made more money available to local councils to provide further funding for households who might be struggling most with the increase in the cost of living.

This Household Support Fund is a separate initiative to the Council Tax Energy Rebate scheme we are also operating.

The initial round of funding will provide:

  • A one off payment of £90 to all householders in Devon (except Plymouth and Torbay) of state pensionable age and receive council tax support. Qualifying date of 6 June 2022 applies.

The one-off payment of £90 will be in the form of a post office voucher which can be exchanged for cash. All Devon district councils are administering the fund in the same way.

We will be writing to all eligible households during the week beginning 20 June, to explain the scheme in detail. The Post Office will then send a letter with a voucher on our behalf, during July. All customers have six weeks from receiving the voucher to redeem.

There is no application process for this scheme, we will be directly contacting everyone who is eligible. You do not need to contact us to receive this voucher, and you will not be asked for any personal or financial details.

The second part of the scheme will provide:

  • A one-off payment of £70 (approximately) to all working age households within North Devon Council area who receive council tax support as at 4 July 2022

Letters will be issued during August 2022 by the Post Office and customers will have six weeks from the date of the letter to redeem the voucher.

All households will be sent the voucher directly and there is no need to contact us.

Household Support Fund October 2022 – March 2023

Following the Government’s recent announcement, a third Household Support Fund will also be made available between the period of October 2022 and March 2023. We will update this webpage once we have more details on this fund.

FAQ’s

Who is eligible for assistance from the Household Support Fund April – September 2022?

All Households within North Devon District’s area who receive an element of council tax support / reduction. This is a means tested benefit.

I haven’t received my Post Office voucher yet?

To avoid large queues at the Post Office, vouchers are being issued in two batches. Householders of pensionable age will receive their vouchers during the first half of July. Householders of working age will receive their vouchers at the end of July / beginning of August.

Why are Pensioners receiving £90 and Working Age £70?

When the Household Support Fund was announced in March 2022, part of the criteria was at least 1/3 of the total amount must be awarded to households with occupants of a pensionable age and at least a 1/3 to households with children.

All Devon Districts are awarding Pension Age Households, who receive a reduction in their council tax, £90 and Devon County Council are providing school holiday vouchers for households which receive free school meals.

Devon County Council explains how the remainder is being used in a variety of ways, including an allocation to Districts Councils. With this allocation, plus other available funding from North Devon Council, we are able to award £70 to all working age households who receive a reduction in their council tax.

How long do I have to redeem my voucher?

You have 6 weeks to redeem your voucher. If not redeemed in time the voucher will be cancelled.

Who can redeem the voucher?

Anyone named on the letter can claim the payment providing they have consent from all members of the household.

Where can I redeem the voucher?

The letter has a barcode you can use to pick up your cash payment from any Post Office branch. It doesn’t have to be the one nearest to you.

I cannot get to a Post Office to cash my voucher?

You can nominate someone to collect the payment on your behalf. The nominated person must take the voucher, your ID and a signed letter giving your authority to pay the nominated person, to the Post Office. The nominated person should also take a form of ID.

I have lost my letter?

Please email customerservices@northdevon.gov.uk with your contact details, advising you have lost your original letter. You will be advised how to obtain your payment.

I do not have any of the required ID?

You can request a copy of your council tax bill by emailing counciltax@northdevon.gov.uk. Please do this as soon as possible. The bill will be sent in the post within ten working days.
