Pet shop licences
If you wish to run a business of selling animals (or keeping animals with the intention of selling them), as pets at any premises, including a private home, you must have a pet shop licence.
You will also need to:
Application forms with the correct fees should be addressed to the Licensing team and sent to the council address, or you can hand them in at one of our offices.
When gaining a pet shop licence, you will need to follow a set of conditions that relate to things like record keeping, permitted number of animals and accommodation. These conditions are based on the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Model Conditions for Pet Vending July 2013 in conjunction with a number of organisations, such as the British Veterinary Association, REPTA and OATA.
Please be aware the council also imposes additional conditions for individual premises where appropriate.
